Cargo plane AN26 made an emergency landing on Lake Ülemiste

On Thursday, 18th of March, at 10:18 a.m., a cargo plane belonging to a Polish company EXIN, which was heading from Finland to Tallinn, made an emergency landing on the ice of Lake Ülemiste. There were no victims and none of the four members of the flight crew nor the two additional passengers got severe damages.

According to the first reports the plane was not able to land at the Tallinn Airport as the landing gear did not open. And due to engine problems on the second try the plane was forced to make an emergency landing on the ice of Lake Ülemiste.

The plane was carrying a cargo belonging to DHL. At the moment a rescue team is trying to keep the plane from breaking through the ice and sinking into the lake which provides the capital of Estonia with drinking water.

Press conference on the subject will take place today at 15.00 p.m. at the terminal of departing flights in Tallinn Airport.
