Kosovan IT Delegation to Draw from Estonia’s E-Government Example

In a meeting this afternoon with Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications Juhan Parts, the Kosovan Deputy Prime Minister Ramë Manaj and Minister of Public Administration Arsim Bajrami expressed their interest towards the development of information society in Estonia. Minister Parts promised to help Kosovo in creating their own E-government.

Mr Juhan Parts and his Azerbaijan colleagues opened the Estonian-Azerbaijan business forum today

Today, Mr Juhan Parts, Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications of the Republic of Estonia, and Mr Heydar Babayev, Minister of Economic Development of Azerbaijan, opened the Estonian-Azerbaijan business forum. The ministers noted that, regardless of the modest co-operation until now, both countries would be interested in tightening their economic relations.

Committee of investigators release interim report of Sikorsky helicopter accident investigation

On Wednesday, 8th of August, the committee investigating the causes of the aviation accident of Sikorsky S76 C+ helicopter on 10 August 2005 on Tallinn Bay will release the interim report about the causes of the accident on the web page of  Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications (www.mkm.ee).

RailBaltica Phase I Alignment to Run through Valga

At today’s cabinet session the Government decided to support the proposal of the Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications Juhan Parts to implement the Rail Baltica project by stages, directing the phase I rail link between Tallinn and Riga through Valga.

Concealed sanctions of Russia may lie in the blocking of the bridge of Narva

Though the bridge of Narva requires repairing, it is under no circumstances in breakdown condition and thus the shutdown of traffic there is not justified. According to the opinion of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications the shutdown of traffic from Russia may mean concealed sanctions, though no official confirmation from the Russian side on the obstruction of traffic has arrived.

Parts: Estonia will transfer to opening the postal market as soon as possible

In a situation, where several member states of the European Union have not made an univalent decision whether the open the postal market on the set deadline in the year 2009, Estonia is in favour of the complete opening without with delays, the Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications Parts confirmed. He introduced the position of Estonia today in the opening speech of the plenary meeting of the European Committee for Postal Regulation (CERP) held in Tallinn today.

St. Petersburg Court Increases Estonia's Compensation for Runner 4 Costs

The St. Petersburg Court of Arbitration ruled that Estonia was to receive 564 011 USD (ca 6.5 million EEK) from the limitation fund of Svjatoi Apostol Andrei, a vessel that collided with the freighter Runner 4 last March.

Estonian Government and BRS signed the Share Transfer Agreement, End Privatization of Estonian Railways

On 17th of November, the government of Estonia and Baltic Rail Services (BRS), the owner of 66 per cent of Estonian Railways, have signed the agreement that enables to terminate the privatization of Estonian Railways and start the transfer of ownership of the company to the Estonian government with the price of 150 million euros and settlement of all ongoing disputes between the parties. The final transfer of shares is also subject to parliamentary approval and budget allocation.

Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications and BRS reached and agreement on reacquisition of Estonian Railways

On Wednesday, 18th of October the ministry and the majority shareholder of Estonian Railways OÜ Baltic Rail Services (BRS) finalized the negotiotiations on termination of the 2001 Privatization Agreement by technically initializing the Share Transfer and Termination Agreement. The initialized texts will be sent to the Government, if the Government approves the deal, then the Agreement will be executed.

The helicopter accident investigation commission got together today

On 15. of February there was in the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications informal meeting of the investigation commission into occurred on Tallinn bay Copterline helicopter S-76C+ accident on  10. of August 2005.

On the meeting took part representatives from Estonia and Finnish side.

There was no possibility to participate in the meeting for representatives from US NTSB, but they sent to the investigation commission update about the investigations ongoing in USA.

Estonian state backs Tallink in buying Silja Line

Edgar Savisaar, the Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications, met the AS Tallink Grupp board today on the 15th of February and discussed the development plans for the Estonian transport and tourism sector and also for AS Tallink Group. Edgar Savisaar confirmed that he would support Tallink Group as the buyer of Silja Line, since it would bring direct benefit to the development of Estonia's economy.
